I gathered below several tips for you in order to have a wonderful time during your staying in Athens.

Like in every big (4-5 millions residents), touristical (obviously!) metropolis, you need to beware of pickpocketing!

In Greece, tips are optional and depend solely on how satisfied you are of the service, usually about 15% is fair.

Even though Athens is a metropolis, locals are relatively easy-going and willing to assist but only if you ask them.

You can find good food pretty much everywhere, including most typical greek fast food, like gyros and souvlaki.

In most restaurants, their kitchen closes as late as 11pm. Try as many “starters” as you feel like and go also for salads!

There are grocery stores, aka “supermarkets”, that have anything, but also small ones, “minis”, and kiosks, “periptero”.

Athens has a large number of interesting museums, reflecting its long and rich cultural history. Visit as many as possible!
As in many places in the world, it is always better and safer to arrange your pick up in advance and use taxi applications.
Regarding public transportation, the metro is very good, clean, accurate and keeps expanding. Buses, not so good.
Children, including babies, are allowed everywhere, however their parents are the ones responsible to supervise them.
Most restaurants offer house wine, often better than bottled. In addition, don’t skip cocktails containing greek ingredients!
There are several beaches that are decent, usually with a fee. And the rule is: the further from Athens, the better the sea.
Pets are welcome in shops, services and open-air restaurants, not in closed ones though. Not allowed in transport and museums.
